Minnesota Legalizes Gay Marriage

On May 13, 2013, it was announced that Minnesota has become the 12th state in the country to legalize gay marriage (by legislative vote).  Minnesota is the first state in the Midwest and now joins Rhode Island and Delaware (in just the last 10 days).  This vote came a little more than 6 months after voters defeated an amendment that would have banned gay marriage in the State’s Constitution (according to the Associated Press).  Once the Democratic Governor Mark Dayton signs the bill on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, marriages will be available for Minnesota gay couples effective August 1, 2013.
